Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, born Lothar Berfelde in 1928, lived the life of a woman, although enclosed in the body of a man. Brought up by a tyrannical father who beat her regularly, she grew up in Nazi Germany. After taking the humiliations and tortures of her father as long as she could, Charlotte killed her tormentor in his sleep. In spite of everything, Charlotte survived the turmoils of war to live in what was then the Stasi-controlled GDR. She established her own museum which housed the turn-of-the-century pieces she had collected throughout the years. An incredible life story of a warmhearted, gentle human being, yet a courageous outsider: a born fighter.
